G4's own Miguel Concepion was fortunate enough to get a first look at Max Payne 3, and bring back word on how it's shaping up. The initial reaction: It's great. The third game in the series keeps what has always worked about Payne, while incorporating recent gameplay innovations. Check out a sample of our Max Payne 3 first look:"It was when I saw Max in the hallway that all the memories started to flood in. We all spent many, many hours in the hallways of the previous games and the superb graphical detail in Max Payne 3 made me think that a remake of the original game wouldn’t be a bad idea. Things become even more familiar when Max makes his first slow-motion leap toward a couple of mob goons, unloading rounds in classic Payne fashion. It turns into a thrilling charge down subsequent hallways as Max wields standard issue firearms like the dual pistols and a shotgun."Read the rest of our Max Payne 3 preview.

The Amazing Spider-Man Movie Getting A Ga

Activision and Beenox released Spider-Man: Edge of Time just 10 days ago. Meanwhile, we're just eight months away from the release of director Marc Webb's film reboot for Sony Pictures, The Amazing Spider-Man. Beenox, which also developed last year's Spidey game, Shattered Dimensions, is now busy working on a game based on the upcoming movie. The confirmation comes in the form of a poster at Activision's New York Comic Con booth, as spotted by IGN. The movie will be released on July 3, 2012 and it's reasonable to assume that the game might be coming at around the same time. NYCC has only just begun, and the poster's presence suggests that we'll be hearing more about it before the show ends on Sunday.Source: IGN

Skyrim Manual Reveals That You Can Punch

The Elder Scrolls 5: SkyrimNews (37)Previews (16)ReviewVideos (22)Screenshots (27)Cheats and WalkthroughsThe Elder Scrolls 5: SkyrimNews (37)Previews (16)ReviewVideos (22)Screenshots (27)Cheats and WalkthroughsThe Elder Scrolls 5: SkyrimNews (37)Previews (16)ReviewVideos (22)Screenshots (27)Cheats and Walkthroughs Yesterday you got to take a first look at the world map for The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, which Bethesda Softworks will release on November 11. That was pretty cool, but a just-leaked copy of the game manual offers a bit more substance in terms of what we can expect from the game.Screen caps of the booklet can be found at imgur (via CVG). It's pretty standard-issue stuff for the most part; minor changes to the rules and UI here and there, but overall the rules in Skyrim are largely the same as they were in Oblivion and Morrowind. One thing did catch my eye though, a new element to the game's dialogue system: brawling. In addition to being able to persuade, intimidate and bribe the people of Skyrim, you'll also have the option of just throwing your head back in disgust and throw down with your fists. These unarmed battles are always non-lethal as long as weapons remain sheathed; as soon as lethal force is used, your friendly brawl turns into a full-blown crime. Sort of places new value on the game's unarmed combat skill in the social realm, doesn't it?Also revealed is the fact that you'll be able to interact with cooking pots to prepare various food items. You'll need the appropriate ingredients in order to complete the task, of course. Sounds like a good way to earn some extra scratch though, especially if your Skyrim hero, like the previous ones from Oblivion and Morrowind, doesn't require food in order to survive.Source: imgur

Rise of Immortals MOBA Madness

By John Gallagher (Zaitlyn), OnRPG JournalistRise of Immortals is a great game developed by Petroglyph Games that’s hindered by things that are not the fault of the game itself. Rise of Immortals is a MOBA game, where the player controls a hero while battling repeating spawns of weak A.I units called “Creeps” that constantly advance forward towards the enemy base. There are many different types of heroes, from a support tank that heals nearby friends, to single target classes that focus on sniping enemy heroes. This is a great aspect of this game, in that each class has its own backstory as well as its own unique look and feel. The game’s main focus is its Player vs. Player content, which is a blast and well thought out.The main problem with the game’s focus on Player vs. Player content is that not many people play Rise of Immortals, which is a shame since it is obvious the developers care a lot for the game. During my time playing I was only able to get into smaller 2v2 games, and sometimes the wait for that was up to five minutes during peak times. Luckily though the game provides the player with a central hub to walk around in as well as chat with other people who you will be fighting against when the players turn comes up in the queue. This central hub also gives the player time to assign skills that are unique to each class. Each class gets its own skill tree of offensive bonuses, defensive bonuses and a skill tree only usable by the current class. Mainly these skills are passive benefits such as more health or mana regeneration. These skills carry over with the player for as long as they play, but at the beginning of each battle the player has to earn the right to use big hitting spells by gaining veteran points, which is a different stat than skill level ups. This allows each character to develop. Being able to customize one’s character allows the player a sense of achievement and uniquenessThe game does not do a good job of easing the player into the experience. At the beginning of the game, the player is given a choice of hero and then is placed in the central hub with no clue on what any button does or where to begin. They give the player a practice arena, but even that’s very bare bones. Luckily, the game is pretty simple to understand, each hero has four unique skills designed around their role in battle. A support tank has an area heal for example, while a mage’s skills focus mainly on long range spells that damage a large area. Each time the player joins a new battle, these action skills are reset to zero, and the player gains the right to use them as you kill enemy creeps, heroes or defensive towers. The player levels up fairly fast, so within three to four minutes of a battle the player has his or her hero tuned to their specifications. The hero’s stats can also be affected by items that can be bought at a shop in the main base. The player earns gold for these items by killing enemy units, and these items can also be upgraded with gold for even more benefits. Careful management of gold to either increase the hero’s strengths or decrease his weaknesses to balance him out is a big part of this game. The graphics for Rise of Immortals are a mix of well made backgrounds and hero models with bland creeps, textures, and building details. The art style of the different heroes is very interesting. Every hero is unique and does not look anything like what I expected when I first began playing. The screenshots I saw as well as the website gave an impression of a standard foray into a fantasy land we’ve all been to before. But when the player loads up the character select screen, and a giant walking treant makes up one of the tank heroes, and a cyborg dwarf with a rifle makes up one of the single target focused heroes, it was refreshing. The spells and skills of the heroes are well detailed and easily noticeable. Heroes look great, with smooth, detailed animations. The sound effects are also great; the battle music does a great job of increasing the mood. The announcer is also easily heard and keeps the player updated on the action, such as when an ally dies or a defensive tower falls. The maps that the heroes fight on are detailed and varied. Bushes that obscure the opponent’s line of sight provide ample opportunities for ambushes. And if the player feels that one path of attack is being locked down too well, the map designers provide many different methods of getting under the opponents skin. The maps are the perfect size, with running times from home base short enough to not be boring, but long enough that an attacker can punish the player for not defending their towers properly. One feature that Rise of Immortals truly excels in is map variety. There are literally a dozen maps you can play on, a rarity in the MOBA genre. All in all, I think Rise of Immortals is a great game that simply needs more players. That the developers love the game is obvious, but at the moment of writing there simply is not a big enough community to support it. Rise of Immortals has the framework to be a great game, but it simply needs more exposure and more fan word-of-mouth to increase its competitive potential; that part of the game is balanced, during my time with the game I felt I hardly ever had a “cheap” death. If I died, or my team lost, it was because I was outplayed. No one hero is chosen more than any other, which adds to the replayability of the game. Because of this, the player is never left groaning at a loading screen because there is yet another team of Hero X or Hero Y needing to be conquered. Rise of Immortals is a very fun game that any strategy or MOBA fan should give a try.Graphics: 6 out of 10: MOBA games aren't known for their graphics. This isn't one of Rise of Immortal's strong points.Sound: 10 out of 10: Great sound effects, great music, great announcer. Can't complain here!Controls: 8 out of 10: The default control setup is kind of wonky, but you can reprogram inputs to make it work for you.Replay ability: 8 out of 10: With several heroes, each with their own levels as well as skill points, this game can keep you interested long term.

Treyarch developing Modern Warfare 3 Wii

Treyarch is developing the Wii version of Modern Warfare 3, which was confirmed for a 2011 release earlier this week. Infinity Ward creative strategist Robert Bowling dropped the news on the latest One of Swords podcast (via Joystiq)."The Wii has grown so much as a platform," he said. "The great thing is Treyarch proved that you can have an awesome experience on the Wii with Call of Duty. They'll actually be handling that for Modern Warfare 3." Treyarch also developed the well-received Wii version of Black Ops and Modern Warfare Reflex, so the game's in safe hands. Tom Ivan

inFamous 2 'Update 3' released, tweaks UG

Sucker Punch has release 'Update 3' for inFamous 2, and it's a lot more exciting that it sounds. First up, two massive bosses The Devourer and Titan are now placeable characters in UGC (user-generated content) levels, which is cool. "These are mammoth characters that can be used in any way you can think of. Have the two be friends, have them fight each other, have them protect Cole. It is all up to you," explains SP.Next, the patch adds a new Mission Linking feature, which lets you link missions together in a specific order. "Shortly after the launch of inFAMOUS 2 we started to see UGC mission series ... Playing these missions in order was a little on the challenging side and we wanted to make it easier for the mission creators and the fans playing these missions, and Mission Linking does that," says SP. "You can now select another mission as a follow-up mission. Just update the properties on the Mission Start in the editor and publish all the missions associated. Once they're all on the server you'll have a link series of missions. When a player completes the mission they will be given the option to continue directly to the next linked mission."Also new is a Mission Review system, which allows you to submit a short review for any UGC mission you play. And here's a few other tweaks:- Relative Health. You can now change "Health" and "Cole's Energy" modifiers as percentages.- Volume/Monitor Reset. New "Reset When' option on Volume and Monitor logic objects lets you change how or when they can be reset after being triggered.- Author Mission Search. Search results will now display the level author's name. That's all for now, but there's more to come; check out this trailer for InFamous 2: Festival of Blood, a standalone expansion for the open-world game arriving in October. Epic 'No excuse' for missing LA Noire cr

,cheap jimmy choo

LA Noire has attracted a great deal of positive coverage over the past few months, jimmy choo boots, but a few stories may have detracted a little from the success of the excellent Rockstar thriller. Specifically, jimmy choo outlet, we're talking about allegations of poor working conditions at developer Team Bondi and reports that over 130 developers were cut from the game's credits.Analyst Michael Pachter had his say on the latter story earlier this week, suggesting the decision to cut the credits lay at publisher Rockstar's door and not that of Team Bondi. And now Epic president Mike Capps has given his two cents on the matter by slamming the decision, whoever made it.""I think credit is really important, and it's really f***ing cheap - pardon my French," he told IndustryGamers in no uncertain terms. It doesn't cost you a thing to have a guy in the credits who worked for you for three years and had to move to Seattle because his mom got sick six months before the product shipped. Or even just say, he worked hard on this game but didn't finish it."What we do [at Epic] is if someone's a programmer on a game but doesn't stay until the end - the end's the hard part - we'll just call them 'additional programming' as opposed to programmer," he added. "But we absolutely still credit them, because it's free to us and I want the guys here to know that if they ever left they would never be cut out of the credits. It's just common courtesy, really."

Xbox 360 on top in August despite PS3 pri

Games industry analysts have weighed in with US sales predictions for the month of August, jimmy choo boots, ahead of the NPD Group's release of official market data this Thursday. Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter and fellow analyst firm EEDAR both expect Xbox 360 to continue its strong run in the US by outselling all other consoles for the month. The mid-August PS3 price cut should be enough to see Sony's console enjoy a jump in sales over the same month last year, but not enough to overhaul Microsoft's system. On the software front, cheap jimmy choo, Pachter expects sales to be led by Deus Ex: Human Revolution, jimmy choo outlet, with continued strong sales of July release NCAA Football 12. Was A Video Game Cosplay Record Set In Wi

,cheap jimmy choo

In their "wacky news" sections, many mainstream media sources are reporting that a cosplay record has been broken in Wisconsin. The Associated Press (via The Washington Post) says a New Berlin costume company broke the world's record in video game cosplay by gathering 425 jerks to dress like game characters. The Guiness Book of Records has apparently certified this gathering as the the top in the world for people dressed as video game characters gathered in one place. But I say, jimmy choo boots, "POPPYCOCK!" Seriously, jimmy choo outlet, I just screamed "Poppycock!"at the top of my lungs.First off, nothing good has ever happened in Wisconsin. You can look that up. Secondly: At this year's Comic-Con (and at last year's, and the year before that, etc.) there were many, many more people dressed in video game costumes gathered in one place. There were more people in video game costumes gathered at PAX Prime, PAX East and any other sizable video game convention as well. This leads me to one conclusion: The Guiness Book of Worlds Records is kind of a sham. While a great source of information for stories about people who wear beards made of bees, and fat twins riding mopeds, for video game related records, it's not a very accurate source. I pains me to see a once great reference journal reduced to this kind of nonsense.I need a tissue. And a week off. And a hundred thousand dollars to continue my research.Source: Washington PostAll of the best people are following Stephen Johnson's twitter feed. Also, email me if you wanna.

PS3-60 Bethesda exec calls for single co

Bethesda Softworks game director Todd Howard has revealed that he's keen for the industry to adopt a one console as standard. Speaking to PSM3, Howard - also executive producer on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - was asked which one thing he would change about working in the games market. He responded by saying he feels it takes a lot of effort to create a game for multiple platforms and would like to see games follow the same path of DVDs and Blu-rays."I'd like there to be only one platform. It's a lot of work to make the games look good on every platform you're on," said Howard."I often equate it to DVD or Blu-Rays. Once I've bought a DVD I can use it in my TV, in my computer, in my car, here, whatever. And I think it would be good for gaming if it was like that," he added. The 'One-console future', as it has come to be known, was famously put forward by Silicon Knights founder Dennis Dyack, who said it would be a "massive paradigm shift" that would lead to games becoming "better in quality, cheaper, and more widely available".However, while Dyack said it is an inevitability, Howard acknowledges it isn't necessarily a realistic future."They spend billions of dollars selling consoles at a loss for years, but then make the money back with games," he commented. "It's not like the industry is hurting, we're doing really well. But if I had one wish, you know, we would have better games for a single platform."Former SCEE president David Reeves told CVG last year that he could envisage a future in which Sony and Microsoft joined forces to create a single machine.
