China's largest natural geological park opens

According to Chongqing Municipal Land and Housing Administration Bureau on Jan. 17, the Yangtze River Three Gorges (Chongqing) National Geological Park has officially opened.

The park, whirift goldch was approved by the Ministry of Land and Resources in 2004, is the largest natural geological park in China and crosses Chongqing and Hubei Province. The partial museum in Chongqing is divided into three sections and occupies an area of 12,500 square kilometers.

After six years of construction, the current park has already become a comprehensive geological park and popular science park. rift platinum

How to seize the perfect opportunity to preserve your health

1. Make sure to nourish your liver. Traditional Chinese medicine teaches us that spring is crucial to the liver-nourishing process; summer is perfect for nourishing the heart. In autumn one should nourish one’s liver and in winter we nourish your kidneys. There is a high incidence of liver disease in spring, so one should nourish our liver to harmonize the Yin-Yang and promote the relative equilibrium of Yin and Yang. Food with sweet flavor, such as walnuts, peanuts, longans, medlars and Chinese dates are beneficial to the liver and kidney. Wine is harmful to our liver; drinking is unsuitable in the spring. It is better to drink some chrysanthemum tea and mint water. Beverages abundant in electrolytes, such as Pocari Sweat, are perfect for the spring.

2. Pay attention to the balance between Yin and Yang in your food. Traditional Chinese medicine classifies food into five flavors: cold, hot, warm, cool and calm. When cooking cold foods such as fish, crab and shrimp, add vinegar, ginger and cooking wine to neutralize the cold. And when eating papaya, garlic and chives, which warm the kidneys, mix them together with some eggs, which nourish the Yin to achieve a balance of Yin and Yang.

Inkhorn Terms

Writers of the English Renaissance often felt that the word stock of the ENGLISH LANGUAGE did notrift gold provide as flexible an instrument for the full expression of their thoughts and feelings as had ancient Latin and Greek. A number of authors attempted to remedy that perceived defect by introducing into English terms that had been borrowed from other languages. Such terms often struck their readers or auditors as strange and un-English, and as those who introduced them were often pedants andtera gold preachers with ink-stained fingers who used hollow cows’ horns as portable inkwells, the words came to be known as inkhorn terms. Some of them appeared once or a few times and found their way to history’s trash heap.Others became standard fixtures in a language forever growing, changing, and open to novel vocabulary and usage.

Here is a list of words that many considered inkhorn terms when they first appeared but that have become standard in the language: affability, capacity, celebrate, expending, frivolous, and ingenious. Here is a list of inkhorn terms that did not survive in the standard tongue: fatigate, ingent, magnifical, and revoluting.

Industrial Gases

While the gases that are now commonly referred to as ‘‘industrial,’’ namely oxygen, hydrogen, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen, were not fully understood until the nineteenth century, scientistsrift gold in the twentieth century moved rapidly to utilize the knowledge. Driven largely by the demands of manufacturing industries in North America and Western Europe, rapid improvements in the technology of production and storage of industrial gases drove what has become a multibillion dolar business, valued at $34 billion in 2000. At the start of the twenty-first century, industrial gases underpin nearly every aspect of the global economy, from agriculture, welding, metal manufacturing and processing, refrigerants, enhanced oil recovery, food and beverage processing, electronic component manufacturing, to rocket propulsion. Oxygen for metal manufacturift platinumring is the largest volume market, with chemical processing and electronics using significant volumes of hydrogen and lower volumes of specialty gases such as argon. Until at least the fifteenth century, gases were thought of inclusively as ‘‘air,’’ part of the alchemical construction of the world. It was not until the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries that properties and characteristics unique to individual gases were recognized. Once one gas was finally isolated, a cavalcade of similar discoveries followed.

Government Policies, Rivalries Negatively Affect Minority Rights in Africa

Minority Rights Group International released its annual report Thursday in which six of the top 10 countries listed in its Peoples Under Threat index are located in Africa. Group members say discrimirift goldnatory government policies and long-standing rivalries over resources are the major factors that make particular ethnic groups and communities targets of violence and neglect on the continent.

The London-based human rights organization uses statistical analysis in its index to identify ethnirift goldc groups and other minority communities around the world most at risk of mass killings.

Somalia

Topping the list of this year's Peoples Under Threat index is war-torn Somalia, where the Bantu minority group is particularly vulnerable.

Mohamed Hassan Daryeel is head of the Somali Minority Rights Forum. He says the Bantus, who are agriculturalists (farmers), are considered to be second-class citizens whose physical features are distinctive.

"Socially, they are a segregated community," said Daryeel. "Their ethnicity is different from our features. [Somalis] traditionally looked to them as slaves."

TAXATION

Taxation is a system of raising money to finance government services and activities. Governments at all levels–local, rift gold, state, and national–require people and businesses to pay taxes. Governments use the tax revenue to pay the cost of police and fire protection, health programs, schools, roads, national defense, and many other public services.

Taxes are as old as government. The general level of taxes has varied through the years, depending on the role of the government. In modern times, many governments–especially in advanced industrial countries–have rapidly expanded their roles and taken on new responsibilities. As a result, their need for tax revenue has become great. Through the years, people have frequently protested against tax increases. In these situations, taxpayers have favored keeping services at current levels or reducing them. Voters have defeated many proposals for tax increases by state and local governments.

Kinds of taxes

Governments levy many kinds of taxes. The most important kinds include property taxes, income taxes, and taxes on transactions. Property taxes are levied on the value of such property as farms, houses, stores, factories, and business equipment. The property tax first became important in ancient times. Today, it ranks as the chief source of income for local governments in the United States and Canada. Most states of the United States and provinces of Canada also levy property taxes. Property taxes are called direct taxes because they are levied directly on the people expected to pay them. Income taxes are levied on income from such sources as wages and salaries, rift gold dividends, interest, rent, and earnings of corporations. There are two main types of income taxes–individual income taxes and corporate income taxes. Individual income taxes, also called personal income taxes, are applied to the income of individuals and families. Corporate income taxes are levied on corporate earnings. Income taxes may also be levied on the earnings of estates and trusts. Income taxes generally are considered to be direct taxes.

PROFIT

Profit is the amount of money a company has left over from the sale of its products after it has paid for all the expenses of production. These expenses include costs of such things as raw materials, workers’ salaries, and machinery. They also include a reasonable return on the owner’s investment, a salary for the labor the owner supplies to the firm, and other costs that are hard to calculate. A main task of accounting is to define and measure profits accurately. Profits are vital to the economic system of the United States, Canada, and other countries where private enterprise is encouraged. In such countries, profits belong to the owners of companies or rift gold the stockholders of corporations. One of the chief reasons for operating a business is to make a profit. The desire for profits motivates companies to produce their goods efficiently. This is because the lower a company’s costs are, the greater its profits can be. A business can earn a profit only by producing goods and services whose selling price is greater than the cost of producing them. Therefore, business executives seek to use labor and raw materials to produce and sell things for which customers will pay a price that is greater than the cost of production. Thus, the search for profits is also the search for the uses of a country’s labor and raw materials that will satisfy consumers most completely. Some business executives constantly lower prices to capture sales and profits from their competitors. However, there are several reasons why competition does not eliminate profits. For one thing, at any one time, there will be many firms that have discovered profitable opportunities their competitors cannot yet match. Sometimes, rift gold new firms cannot duplicate a profitable product because of patents or trademarks, or for other reasons. Sometimes, new firms cannot produce goods as cheaply as established ones. The bother and risk of entering an unfamiliar industry also keeps some new firms from competing with a product that is not especially profitable. The established firms can then enjoy reasonable profits without fear of new competition.

BANK SERVICES

Safeguarding deposits. Deposits in a bank are relatively safe. Banks keep cash and other liquid assets available to meet withdrawals. Liquid assets include securities that can be readily converted to cash. Banks are also insured against losses from robberies. But the most important safeguard is the fact that in most countries, governments have established deposit insurance programs. The insurance protects people from losing their deposits if a bank fails. A bank not only keeps savings safe but also helps them grow. Funds deposited in a savings account earn interest at a specified annual rate. Many banks also offer a special account for which they issue a document called a certificate of deposit (CD). Most CD accounts pay a higher rate of interest than regular savings accounts. However, the money must remain in the account for a certain period, such as one or two years, rift gold to earn the higher rate of interest. Banks also offer money market accounts. These accounts pay an interest rate based on the prevailing rates for short-term corporate and government securities.

Providing a means of payment. People who have funds in a bank checking account can pay bills by simply writing a check and mailing it. A check is a safe method of settling debts, and the canceled check provides proof of payment. Customers may also ask a bank to automatically pay recurring bills, such as telephone and mortgage payments, by a process called direct deposit deduction. Many banks allow people to pay bills electronically by telephone or through the Internet computer network. Many banks offer credit cards. People can use the cards to pay for their purchases at stores and other businesses. The bank then pays the businesses directly and sends the customer a monthly bill for the amount charged. The cardholder can usually choose to pay only part of the bill immediately. If so,rift gold he or she must pay a finance charge on the unpaid balance. Banks may also issue debit cards, which resemble credit cards. When a cardholder uses a debit card, the amount of the purchase is deducted directly from the cardholder’s checking account. Some cards can be used as either credit or debit cards.

Quiet, clean sweep in France

The lumbering, polluting trucks that have collected garbage from French streets for years will soon become a noisy memory once a new generation of super quiet, all-electric vehicles starts making the rounds next week.
The zero-emission,rift gold made-in France trucks are still large and bulky, but they promise to pack as much punch as their cousins with a vastly reduced impact on the environment and a relatively inoffensive, low humming engine sound.
The Paris suburb of Courbevoie, with over 70,000 residents, will receive the first all-electric trucks on May 12.
All existing trucks — which operate on dual electric and thermal motors — will eventually be replaced by the new vehicles, rift gold of which 11 will be in operation by the end of this year, according to SITA France, a subsidiary of waste management company Suez Environnement.
“The engineers faced a real challenge of how to make it all work together — how they would be able to minimize overall electrical usage and come up with the vehicle that we have here,” said SITA industrial director, Cyril Fraissinet.

Harper could shape the judiciary for a generation

In 2003, an American man who served 14 years on death row was found not guilty of murder after evidence of prosecutorial misconduct surfaced. He sued and a jury awarded him $14 million. But that award was appealed. And in March of this year, in a 5-4 vote, with conservative judges in the majority, liberals in the minority, the United States Supreme Court threw it out.
Observers weren’t surprised. In politically charged cases, the U.S. Supreme Court routinely splits 5-4 and the composition of the two camps is always the same. Conservatives on one side. Liberals on the other. It’s utterly predictable. And political. Indeed, the politics couldn’t be more blatant.
Is that the future of Canada’s judiciary?
By 2015, four of the nine judges of Canada’s Supreme Court will reach the mandatory retirement age of 75. The prime minister will decide who replaces them. He will also fill countless vacancies in lower courts. Quite conceivably, Stephen Harper will determine the character the judiciary for a generation.
Ordinarily, that wouldn’t be a concern. Prime ministers come and go and, while they’re in power, they appoint judges. And since Canada’s Supreme Court and the rest of the judiciary are respected at home and abroad, that seems to work pretty well.
But consider a few of Stephen Harper’s past statements about judges.
In 2000, when Harper was president of the National Citizens Coalition, he sought to overturn a law limiting spending during elections by third parties. The Supreme Court rejected his claim and Harper responded with vitriol. “It displays a prejudicial bias,” he said. “It calls into question (the court’s) neutrality and open-mindedness.”
Aside from the irony of a conservative critic of “judicial activism” hammering the court for refusing to strike down a duly enacted law, what’s striking about that is Harper’s deeply political and slightly paranoid attitude to judicial decision-making. It has popped up several times since. A particularly vivid example appeared in 2003,rift gold when Harper accused judges of being involved in a vast left-wing conspiracy.
“They wanted to introduce this same-sex marriage through back channels,” Harper told reporters, referring to the Liberal government. “They didn’t want to come to Parliament. They didn’t want to go to the Canadian people and be honest that this is what they wanted. They had the courts do it for them, put the judges in that they wanted, then they failed to appeal, failed to fight the case in court.”
In a very specific sense, Harper’s attitude is American.
In the U.S., judges are routinely identified by others and even themselves as Republican or Democrat, conservative or liberal, and they are appointed accordingly. On politically contentious cases, no one is shocked if their judgments consistently favour their side. Indeed, it’s more of a shock when they don’t: Politicos routinely cite the case of Supreme Court Justice David Souter — appointed by a Republican president, he sometimes sided with the court’s liberals — as a warning against ideological wafflers.
There are strengths and weaknesses to this system but, in any event, Canada’s judicial tradition is very different.
In Canada, judges are expected to be neutral and disinterested arbiters to the greatest extent possible. They would never accept a party label. And they would be ashamed to think their decisions are politically consistent.
Doubt that? Look at some of the politically contentious decisions of the Supreme Court: When the court splits, it’s impossible to predict in advance which judge will support which side.
This is not to say politics plays no role at all in judicial appointments. Liberal governments have certainly favoured those with Liberal connections for elevation to the bench. Conservatives have favoured Conservatives. But this has been more in the nature of patronage than politics because even the politically connected are expected to dispense with politics on the bench. Also, party ties matter less to appointments as one goes up the hierarchy, becoming all but irrelevant in Supreme Court appointments.
So what will Stephen Harper do now that he has the unconstrained power of a majority government? Will he appoint conservative judges who can be relied on to push conservative policies in the mistaken belief that he is merely counterbalancing what earlier Liberal governments did? Will he politicize the judiciary?
We don’t know. Jurists worry he may.
But there’s also reason to be hopeful that Harper’s views have matured. Over the past five years, the prime minister has made a long list of judicial appointments and while there is evidence of the traditional sort of patronage — it definitely helps to have Conservative connections if you want to get on the bench these days — there isn’t much sign of politicization. Indeed, his two Supreme Court appointments have been widely praised. Patrick Monahan, rift gold the former dean of Osgoode Hall Law School, told me they were “outstanding” choices, and he expects more of the same.
Ed Ratushny agrees. There are no grounds for finding fault with Harper’s appointments to either the Supreme Court or lower courts, says the University of Ottawa law professor. “I think he was very responsible.”
That said, there were also troubling moments during the Harper minorities.
The government added a law enforcement representative — and no other interest group — to the committees that recommend judicial appointments, and he appointed committee members who were clearly ideologically simpatico. In 2007, he crossed a well-established line when he openly said he wanted judges who would take a harder line on crime.
And this February, Jason Kenney, a senior minister with the ear of the prime minister, shocked an audience of lawyers and legal scholars when he slammed judges for not following the political direction of the government when they interpret legislation. “Your public criticism of judges who follow the law but not the government’s political agenda is an affront to our democracy and freedoms,” the Canadian Bar Association responded in an open letter.
So which Stephen Harper will appoint Canada’s future judiciary? The reasonable moderate or the partisan zealot?

Saving Money While Serving Your Country: How to Find the Best Military Discounts

It's not hard to find companies that offer military discounts. In fact, retailers seem to be lining up to offer America's service members deals on everything from cars to garden supplies, jewelry to vacations. But with an endless array of opportunities -- and scammers waiting in the wings -- it can be hard to sort out the best bargains. Luckily, there are several resources available to military families trying to make the most of every penny.

Discounts From Your Favorite Companies

Most well-known companies offer military discounts, and many of them aggressively promote these deals, recognizing that widespread awareness of the discounts will not only impress military members, but can also bring civilians into their stores. Lowe's, (LOW) for example, broadly publicizes the 10% discount it offers to military families, and Old Navy (GPS) eagerly promotes the 10% military discount that it offers on the first day of every month.

Car companies are especially quick to advertise their military discounts. Rift Gold While some offers, like Ford's, (F) are disturbingly vague, others are quite easy to figure out. For example, Chrysler and Toyota (TM) both give active-duty members and reservists $500 off the price of a new car, while Volvo (VOLVY) and Audi (VLKAY) offer discounts to military members stationed overseas. But when it comes to competitive car pricing, the big winner is GM, (GM) whose discount program offers service members up to 13% off the suggested retail price on some models.

For military families in search of deals, there are several websites that list special offers and discounts. Some, like Military.com, require membership, but most are open access. Military Discount List is especially easy to use, and it directly connects to several social media sites, which makes it easy to discuss deals. RIFT Platinum Readers of the Military Times newspapers may also want to check out the publications' websites, which publish long lists of military deals and regularly run features on especially good bargains.

And, if all else fails, it never hurts to ask a store's cashier if there is a discount for military families. After all, the worst that can happen is they can say no.

An Unbeatable Deal on Travel

One of the best military discounts isn't even offered by a company: It's offered by the military. For service members and their families, rift gold the Air Mobility Command (AMC) offers free flights to military bases around the world. While vacationing at Mildenhall Air Force Base or Naval Air Station Sigonella might sound less than enjoyable, those bases are only a short trip from the wonders of the English countryside and the delights of Sicily, respectively. The military's huge presence around the world translates into an endless array of travel options, from Turkey to Japan, Alaska to Thailand.

Unfortunately, while AMC transports regularly travel out of various bases, getting a seat on these flights is dependent upon several factors, including how packed the plane is, how many people are on the base's AMC list, and the military member's status. Rift Gold Seats are offered on a first-available basis, and the inability to reserve a spot can make AMC travel somewhat stressful. Still, if you are willing to indulge in a little bit of forward planning, have a fairly loose schedule, and are OK with cooling your heels on a military base for a few hours, AMC flights can be an incredibly good deal.

UFC 129 Live Blog: Sean Pierson vs. Jake Ellenberger Updates

This is the UFC 129 live blog for Sean Pierson vs. Jake Ellenberger, RIFT Platinum a welterweight bout on tonight's Spike TV portion of the card at the Rogers Centre.

Pierson (11-4) won his UFC debut last December with a unanimous decision over Matt Riddle. rift gold Ellenberger (24-5) has won his last three UFC fights against Mike Pyle, John Howard and Carlos Eduardo Rocha.

Round 1: Slow start for Pierson, a southpaw, and Ellenberger, an orthodox fighter. After a minute of circling, RIFT Platinum Ellenberger drives for a takedown, but Pierson is back to his feet in seconds. Ellenberger landed a right cross but Pierson clinched for a second to clear the cobwebs. Ellenberger with a left hook floored Pierson and he was out. TERA Gold Ellenberger actually landed a right as Pierson was going down, then jumped on him to finish, but the extra punches were really unnecessary as Pierson was already out. Herb Dean stopped it as quickly as he could. Rift Gold Another speedy, decisive finish as the fighters continue to impress.

Ethical Clothing Companies That Would Make Angelina Jolie Proud

The clothing industry has seen a number of human rights violations in recent history, especially related to underpaying workers in the developing world. If you have high ethical standards, in line with the social platform of superstar Angelina Jolie, which clothing brands should you buy? Below is a list of more ethical apparel brands.

To find some ethical companies, Benzinga looked to the Ethisphere Institute, a society which publishes a list of 110 most ethical companies in the world for the year 2011. The main categories for the institute's list were corporate citizenship and responsibility, ethics and compliance program, corporate governance and reputation, leadership and innovation. A number of clothing producers and sellers made it on this list.

Among the companies that made this list include Germany's Adidas (ADSYY), a company that manages brands like Reebok and Rockport. Last year was a good year for Adidas, with total revenue up 9% compared to the previous year. Retail sales grew by 18%, driven by strong showing of Adidas' main brands, Adidas and Reebok. In late March, Adidas presented its new environmental strategy with a goal of using 100% Better Cotton by 2018 in an attempt to reduce its environmental footprint.

The markets seemed to reward Adidas' approach, since its shares gained over 9% over the last 30 days. Its shares did tumble 1.5% in the immediate morning trading following the report, however.

Next on the list is Gap (GPS). This San Francisco-based company has five primary brands: Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy, Athleta, and Piperlime. Rift Gold Although the company's Q4 net income results for prior year grew to $365 million from $303 million in the previous quarter, the more recent news has not been kind to Gap. Its March, sales were down 8% compared to last year's numbers. To make matters worse for Gap, a number of agencies have downgraded its shares. The last one was Goldman Sachs slapping a sell rating on its shares yesterday. The Gap lost 3% that day. Today was no better, as Gap's losses continued in the morning session, and its shares lost another 3% of their value. Over the last three months, Gap shares still gained over 7%.

The Timberland Company (TBL) , another American clothing producer, also made its way onto the list. Last year the Timberland Company achieved the industry's largest greenhouse emissions reduction of 38%, though still below the company's 50% target. RIFT Platinum The greenhouse emission reduction did not seem to hurt Timberland's profits as its reported Q4 earnings per share of $0.82 -- way above Thompson Reuters' prediction of $0.51 EPS.

Timberland's shares are one of the major success stories this year after rising almost 60% in the last three months, even though they lost over 1% in today's trading, completing a bad morning for retailers.

H & M, a Swedish clothing store, is another household name on the list. The end of last year was far from memorable for the Swedish giant as its profits tumbled by 11%, more than the analysts were predicting. rift gold Not too encouraging for investors were its March sales figures; they were up by 2% as a result of market expansion, but same-store sales were down by 5%.

Bad sales and profit results took their toll on H & M's shares, which lost around 7% of their value in the last three months. Today's results are more encouraging for the Swedish giant as its shares at Stockholm's stock exchange were up 0.75%.

The last company on Benzinga's list is Target (TGT) . Although you'll not likely to find Angelina Jolie shopping at Target, the Minnesota-based retail giant has been named by DiversityBusiness.com as one of the top 50 organizations for multicultural business opportunities. RIFT Platinum This has not helped Target's sales much, as it recently reported a year-to-date sales drop of 2.4%. Target remains optimistic, though, as it hopes sales will pick up during Easter, which comes much later this year.

This has been a difficult year so far for Target. Shares have lost almost 8% in the past three months. TERA Gold In morning trading, Target avoided the fate of the Gap, Adidas, and the Timberland Company and saw its shares rise by a mere 0.06%.

Nutrition in Peanut Butter Pretzels

Undoubtedly, peanut butter is popular in the United States. You may like your peanut butter simply smeared on some bread with jelly, but others enjoy it with cabbage, Rift Gold or even burgers. Peanut butter and pretzels also go well together. These pillow-shaped snacks can help satisfy your hunger without overdoing it on calories, as long as you can stick to the serving size.

Calories in peanut butter pretzels can vary depending on your brand choice. RIFT Platinum One serving, ranging from 10 to 11 pieces, contains 150 to 160 calories. The American Dietetic Association recommends you try to keep your snack choices to less than 300 calories. You can have up to 20 peanut butter pretzel pieces following these recommendations.

Women Who Experience Hot Flashes at Lower Risk for Heart Attack, Death

Hot flashes that bedevil many women in menopause might actually be a good thing, depending on when they strike, according to new data from a long-running government study.

Women who had hot flashes at the start of menopause but not later seemed to have a lower risk for heart attack and death than women who never had hot flashes,Rift Gold or those whose symptoms persisted long after menopause began.

By contrast, among the few women who developed hot flashes late - in some cases many years after menopause began - there were more heart attacks and deaths when compared with the other groups.

The research involved more than 60,000 women followed for an average of almost 10 years. It's the first to examine timing of menopausal symptoms and subsequent risks for heart problems and deaths,RIFT Platinum said co-author Dr. JoAnn Manson, chief of preventive medicine at Harvard's Brigham and Women's Hospital.

Recent studies linked hot flashes with higher blood pressure and cholesterol levels, which could suggest a higher risk for heart problems, but the new research offers a more detailed look, Manson said.

Lead author Dr. Emily Szmuilowicz, an endocrinologist with Northwestern University's medical school, said the results should reassure millions of women who experience hot flashes or night sweats, which are essentially hot flashes that can be bothersome enough to awaken women.

The results suggest "there may be a positive side" to having these annoying symptoms, Szmuilowicz said.

The study was released online Thursday in the journal Menopause.

Dr. Elsa-Grace Giardina, a Columbia University specialist in women's heart disease who was not involved in the study, rift gold said the research has several limitations and that more rigorous study is needed to prove the results.

Few women developed hot flashes long after menopause began, and for at least some, previous use of hormone pills may have increased their risks for heart problems, Giardina said.

But more than one-third of the women with late-onset symptoms never used hormones, and Szmuilowicz said the researchers took past hormone use into consideration and still found timing of symptoms played a role.

Menopause occurs when women stop having periods and estrogen levels dwindle. Most women experience symptoms including hot flashes that can last for several years. RIFT PlatinumBut they don't usually persist indefinitely or begin long after the beginning of menopause.

Hot flashes aren't well studied but are thought to result from blood vessels dilating in response to the normal hormone fluctuations of menopause, Manson said. If they occur long after menopause begins it could signal a blood vessel abnormality that could also affect the heart, she said.

The research involved 60,027 women from the ongoing Women's Health Initiative observational study, examining disease risk factors and health outcomes and funded by the National Institutes of Health.

Women were in their early 60s on average, about 14 years past the start of menopause, when they answered questionnaires about their health,TERA Gold education history, and symptoms including hot flashes and night sweats. Cardiovascular problems and deaths were tracked during almost 10 years of follow-up.

More than one-third, or almost 25,000 women, had early symptoms - hot flashes at the onset of menopause that had stopped before they enrolled. Just 1,391 had late symptoms - hot flashes at enrollment but not at the start of menopause.

About 2.5 percent of women with early symptoms had heart attacks, compared with 3.4 percent of women with no symptoms and 5.5 percent of those with late symptoms. Also, about 6 percent of the early symptom women died, versus 11 percent of the late symptom group and 8 percent of the symptomless women. Women who had persistent hot flashes throughout menopause had risks similar to those without symptoms.

Giardina noted that high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and obesity - which all can contribute to heart problems - were more common among the late symptom women.

But the researchers said they accounted for that and still found that timing of menopause symptoms played a role in later heart attacks and deaths.

Study: Stress Doesn't Stop Infertility Treatments From Working

Struggling with fertility problems can be stressful for many women. But that stress does not appear to interfere with infertility treatments,Rift Gold a new study finds.

Research published in the medical journal BMJ finds that stress from infertility or other events does not prevent in vitro fertilization and other fertility treatments from working.

Professor Jacky Boivin from the U.K.-based Cardiff Fertility Studies Research Group and colleagues investigated links between the success of fertility treatment and stress by examining 14 studies involving 3,RIFT Platinum583 infertile women undergoing a cycle of fertility treatments.

The women were assessed before fertility treatment for anxiety and stress. Boivin and colleagues then compared data for women who got pregnant and women who did not.

rift goldThe results show that emotional distress was not associated with whether or not a woman became pregnant.

"These findings should reassure women that emotional distress caused by fertility problems or other life events co-occurring with treatment will not compromise their chance of becoming pregnant," Boivin said in a statement.

About one-third of couples trying to get pregnant stop treatments early because of the stress involved in treatment.RIFT Platinum Many women wrongly blame themselves for their inability to get pregnant, Boivin told BBC.

"Women having fertility treatment who do not get pregnant early on often blame themselves for getting too stressed out and the longer they remain not pregnant the more stressed they get," she said. TERA Gold"This just reinforces the myth."

Lakes

Most Russian lakes were formed by glaciation. The largest such lakes in European Russia are Ladoga (6,835 sq mi / 17,703 sq km)rift gold and Onega (3,701 sq mi / 9,609 sq km), northeast of St. Petersburg. They are also the two largest lakes in all of Europe (as the Caspian is generally not counted). Other large lakes in western Russia include Lake Peipus on the Estonian border and the reservoirs of the Volga River.

Lake Baikal in southern Siberia is the largest lake in Russia and in Asia (again excluding the Caspian, as well as the so-called Aral Sea). It is 392 mi (632 km) long and 32 mi (59 km) wide, with a surface area of 11,870 sq mi (30,510 sq km). It has a maximum depth of 5,715 ft (1,742 meters), making it the deepest body of freshwater on Earth. Due to its great depth, rift gold Lake Baikal also has the greatest volume of any freshwater lake. It is said to contain one-fifth of the Earth’s fresh surface water. Other large Siberian lakes include Lakes Taymyr, Chany, Khanka and the Novosibirsk, Bratsk, and Zeya Reservoirs. There are countless smaller lakes.

US Imposes New Sanctions Against Syria Over Crackdown

The United States imposed sanctions Friday on Syria’s intelligence agency and two relatives of President Bashar al-Assad over the Damascus government’s bloody crackdown on democracy protestors. Officials say the penalties may be later be expanded to include the Syrian leader himself.

Obama administration officials acknowledge the sanctions, freezing any American assets and barring U.S. business dealings by the named individuals and entities, rift gold may have little immediate impact.

But they say they hope the action triggers similar steps by European allies, and puts world attention on those held responsible for the deaths of protestors in Syria, including the town of Daraa where scores of civilians have been killed by security forces.

The executive order, signed Friday by President Barack Obama, names Mahir al-Assad, the brother of the Syrian President and the commander of the Syrian Army’s 4th Division, which has played a lead role in operations in Daraa.

It also cites a cousin of President Assad, Atif Najib, who until recently was security chief in Daraa province, the Syrian General Intelligence Directorate and its chief, Ali Mamluk, as well as the elite Quds Force of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps which is said to be providing "material support" for the Syrian crackdown.

Briefing reporters, State Department Policy Planning Director Jake Sullivan said those targeted are only "the first people on the list" who should face U.S. sanctions, and said the roster could be expanded to include President Assad himself if Syrian behavior does not change.

"The signal we’re trying to send with this order is that a series of individuals and organizations who have played a key role in perpetrating this violence should bear costs for doing so, and that the choice is imposed on others about what they do in the future," said Sullivan. "And if they continue this violence, and if they engage in this violence, we have the flexibility to add additional designations."

The sanctions were authorized under the 2004 Syria Accountability Act by the U.S. Congress, which already sharply limits U.S. trade with that country.

The Iranian Quds force also has been previously sanctioned by the United States. Sullivan, while declining details, said U.S. officials are sure this Tehran-based organization has had a role in the Syrian crackdown.

"I’m not in a position to get into specifics about the information we have on Iran’s involvement in supporting Syria’s effort to repress its own citizens. But we feel we can state with confidence, as the President has, and as [U.N.] Ambassador [Susan] Rice has, rift gold that that involvement is ongoing and is unacceptable."

While describing President Assad as a potential sanctions target, Sullivan declined under questioning to say that he has lost his legitimacy and said Assad's political future is for the Syrian people to decide.

At the same time, he said the recent actions of Damascus authorities "are neither those of a responsible government, nor those of a responsible member of the international community."

Randy Couture Calls It Quits After Knockout Loss, Ending Legendary Career

The end doesn't always come gracefully, even for heroes. Randy Couture is and will forever be one of mixed martial arts' seminal early figures, its building blocks. Fifty years from now, when we have better perspective, maybe we can write a fair and true portrait of his importance, but it's fair to say it was massive.

"The Natural's" era, though, is now over. Years after most pro athletes retire, Couture was still competing, excelling in a young man's game, but no more. His epic run came to a definitive close on Saturday night, overshadowing everything in its path, including UFC 129, the 55,724 filling the Rogers Centre in the biggest MMA show in North American history, as well as Georges St. Pierre's sixth consecutive title defense. It ended with the legend going out on his shield.

Facing a fighter 15 years his junior, the 47-year-old Couture struggled to implement his traditional game plan of closing the range, initiating the clinch, and taking his foe to the ground. RIFT Platinum Instead, Lyoto Machida used his brilliant footwork to keep him at distance and capitalized on a decided speed advantage to pepper the former champ with power strikes. TERA Gold Then in the second, Machida emulated his teammate Anderson Silva, using the same front kick Silva used to knock out Vitor Belfort earlier this year to flatten Couture. Machida finished with strikes from the top before ref Yves Lavigne pulled him off at the 1:05 mark.

After nearly 14 years of action, after 30 fights, five UFC championships and numerous memories, Couture said that indeed, rift gold it was finally, inarguably time to hang up his gloves. "No, you're not going to see me again," Couture said shortly after the fight. "This is it."

As Couture stood in the cage for the final time, the record crowd chanted his name, and Couture waved good bye. He rode off not in a limo or in any stylish ride, but in an ambulance, sent to the hospital for precautionary tests.

Couture, who retired with a record of 19-11, lost not only his final fight, but one of his front teeth, knocked out of his mouth as a result of the kick. Even in defeat, he laughed at his plight, RIFT Platinum telling UFC commentator Joe Rogan, "I think the last time we had this conversation, I had all my teeth."

The stunning knockout not only ended Couture's career but lifted Machida from a rough streak in which he suffered the first two losses of his career. Rift Gold While Machida was thrilled at the victory, jumping atop the cage afterward, he also saluted his fallen foe, paying tribute along with the rest of the crowd.

Sucrose & Maltose

Overview
Sucrose and maltose are both carbohydrates, and more specifically, are both sugars. Sucrose is the chemical name for table sugar, while maltose is more commonly known as malt sugar. They are both common sweetening agents in foods, and you can use either of them to provide for cellular energy needs.

Sucrose
Sucrose is a disaccharide sugar, meaning it's made up of two smaller sugar units called monosaccharides. It has the chemical formula C12H22O11, making it a relatively small carbohydrate. The specific monosaccharides that comprise sucrose are glucose and fructose. Glucose is the most common of the monosaccharides and is one of the most common molecules in the natural world as well. Rift Gold Fructose is better known as fruit sugar, and is also very common.

Maltose
Like sucrose, maltose is a disaccharide. It has the same chemical formula as sucrose, but its structure is somewhat different. Unlike sucrose, maltose consists of two glucose units -- and doesn't contain any fructose. Structurally, maltose is quite similar to starch, RIFT Platinum which is also made up exclusively of glucose monosaccharides. Maltose, however, is a much smaller molecule than starch; starch is a polysaccharide, and consists of many glucose units chemically bonded together.

Sweetness
One of the most familiar aspects of sugars in the diet is that they taste sweet. The glucose and fructose monosaccharides have very different sweetness levels, as fructose binds much more tightly to sweetness receptors in the mouth than glucose. Consequently, rift gold sucrose has an intermediate sweetness; it's less sweet than fructose, but sweeter than glucose. Maltose, as it's made of pure glucose, is only about half as sweet as sucrose.

Use In The Body
When you consume sucrose and maltose, you have to digest them using enzymes. RIFT Platinum Sucrase is the name of the enzyme that digests sucrose, while maltase breaks down maltose. Enzyme reactions are very specific, and despite similarities between the sugars, you can't use maltase to break down sucrose, or vice versa. TERA Gold Once you've broken the sugars into their monosaccharides, you absorb the sugar units into the bloodstream and eventually the cells. You can then burn them for energy.
